About the role

Passionate about the role of peer support in mental health recovery ?

Coastal West Sussex Mind has a vacancy for a Peer Support Worker in our Littlehampton Recovery Service

Coastal West Sussex Mind is a local mental health charity committed to promoting mental well-being in local communities and supporting the recovery and independence of individuals we provide support to.

We believe that people who have or have had lived experience of mental health problems can often be best placed to support people who are struggling with their mental health and our staff peer support workers work alongside our volunteer peer mentors to ensure this support is available.

The successful applicant will work as part of the Littlehampton Recovery Team to:

  • Facilitate and develop peer support by leading peer support groups and activities
  • Support the delivery of work that would contribute to the achievement of individuals personal support plan goals
  • Undertake a range of operational and administrative tasks to support the delivery of the service

Alongside lived experience of having mental health problems the successful candidate will need to be able to evidence that they can work within our policy frameworks and meet basic competencies around managing yourself, your work and working with people.

Evidence of previous experience and learning relating to supporting adults who have mental health needs (for example a qualification in peer mentoring) would be an advantage. Also, some experience of leading and facilitating group activities will also be helpful.

There is some flexibility in the hours and days worked which could be negotiated with the successful candidate, although we would require them to work on a Wednesday and they would also need to be able to regularly do some work on a Saturday or Sunday.

This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

The closing date for applications is: Friday 26/01/2017

Interview: Monday 05/02/2017
