Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square has today announced they will host a short season of films starring actor Robin Williams, to celebrate his life as well as raise awareness and much needed funds for mental health charity Mind.

Films shown during Prince Charles Cinema’s six-week charity season, Robin Williams: What a concept!, include Hook, Good Will Hunting and Mrs Doubtfire. The cinema will hold bucket collections at each of the screenings which will be donated to Mind to make sure everyone with a mental health problem has somewhere to turn for advice and support.

The announcement comes after the independent cinema raised more than £2,700 for Mind with special screenings of two Robin Williams films Good Morning Vietnam and Dead Poets Society last month. The cinema held the screenings following a huge number of requests from their audience who also helped choose the two films that were shown on Saturday 6 September.

Robin Williams: What a concept!, follows the death of the Hollywood actor, who took his own life in August. He had been living with depression.

Kathleen Miles, Director of Fundraising at Mind says: “We have all been genuinely touched by the generosity of Prince Charles Cinema, and their wonderful audience, who have dug deep to support Mind as they celebrate the remarkable career of Robin Williams.

“Depression is a very real illness, which can affect anybody regardless of their age, gender, ethnic group, profession or social status and money raised during the Prince Charles Cinema Robin Williams season will help Mind to be there for anyone experiencing a mental health problem.”

Paul Vickery, Head Programmer at Prince Charles Cinema, says: “Our first event was amazingly supported, with hundreds of people choosing their favourite Robin Williams films and more than 250 buying tickets for the screenings and supporting the vital work of Mind.

“We’re looking forward to our upcoming season and hope that our audience will once again get behind our season, Robin Williams: What a concept!, and help Mind in their work to make sure no one has to face a mental health problem alone.”
