Mind in your area

There are over 20 local Mind associations across Wales working to improve the life of people with mental health problems.

Each of these is a fully independent charity which has chosen to affiliate to Mind. Local Mind associations are run by local people, for local people.

One of the ways you can get involved in the work of Mind is through participation in the work of your local Mind association as a trustee, member of staff, volunteer, or fundraiser. Local associations are dependent on support within the community and so welcome offers of assistance. Local associations particularly welcome the involvement of people who themselves have had experience of mental distress.

Local associations respond to issues within their communities in a range of ways, including:

  • providing services (such as employment projects, information services and helplines, resource centres, supported housing schemes, rural out-reach work, befriending and community support services)
  • involvement in the planning of local mental health services
  • local campaigning on mental health related issues, linking with Mind's national campaign work
  • activities aimed to raise awareness of, and change attitudes and stigma towards, mental health issues.

Mind Cymru works closely with local Mind associations in Wales and offers them a range of support and advice. If you want more information about local Mind associations in Wales please contact the Mind Cymru on 029 2034 6578, or at a.george@mind.org.uk
