The Qur'an & Emotional Health

Working in partnership with Suffolk Mind, we are spreading good practice and knowledge to better engage with local Muslim groups and meet their emotional and mental health needs in a culturally appropriate way. This is mainly done through the development and promotion of a booklet called ‘The Qur’an & Emotional Health: An Introduction

This resource has been coproduced working with Islamic scholars, psychologists, Imams and practicing Muslims. Following precedents established in the Qur’an, the resource draws upon the rich heritage of Islamic psychology and modern knowledge of the human givens to meet needs in a culturally appropriate manner.

Bespoke local versions have been developed for several areas of the country and local Mind staff have been trained to use the booklet to support the emotionnal need of local Muslim communities. Local versions are currently available at the following local Minds:

  1. Bedfordshire and Luton Mind
  2. City and Hackney Mind
  3. Dudley Mind
  4. Mind in Bradford
  5. Newport Mind
  6. Rochdale & District Mind
  7. Solent Mind
  8. Suffolk Mind
  9. York Mind

Community feedback

Feedback from local Muslim groups has been overwhelmingly positive

This is why we have now developed a national version of “The Qur’an & Emotional Health: An Introduction” booklet. We are also rolling out a training package to help health and social care professionals in engaging with faith communities (Muslims in particular) and use the booklet to support their emotional health and wellbeing.
